This section contains a sketched guide illustrating leopard body postures and facial expressions. The sketches were obtained from an as-of-yet unpublished University of the Free State study, entitled Observation on the visual, auditory and olfactory communication in the leopard (Panthera pardus), by authors G. van Wyk, G.N. Smit and O.B. Kok. These sketches were reproduced by the kind permission of Professor Nico Smit.
The illustrations hosted in this section will shed some light on leopard behaviour in their natural environment. What made this particular study even more interesting is that some of the observational data were obtained from Caroline and Steffie when they formed part of the study, together with three other leopards. Click on the left hand links to follow up information regarding the body postures and facial expressions of leopards.
